on stock (please ask your housekeeper).

The BOSE stereo surround system in the main house is a very sophisticated
piece of equipment. Please don’t let it run non-stop, the laser breaks
down when overheated. You’ll find an APPLE i-pod docking station

shelf next to the VIKING-fridge.
Bar books with recipes for classic and fancy drinks can be found on
the shelf opposite the pool bar.

Our walk-in cooling room offers not only a selection of international
wines and champagne, but also soft-drinks, beers, mineral water, juices,
spirits and a selection of basic food supplies.
Please ask for our lists or ask your housekeeper to show what is available.
Courtyard
The bedrooms are reached by walking through our courtyard which features
a whimsical sculpture.
Next to the kitchen there’s a lime tree – please feel free to pick
a lime for your drink! The olive tree and pomegranate tree have been
planted in 2004 – it will take a few more years until they start fruiting.
Crow's Nest
On the third floor of the main house is the "Crow's Nest", a lovely
place to look at the sea or the stars. It can be reached up a steep staircase,
cordoned off by a strong iron chain. On the right hand side is a panorama
window which can be opened (let the housekeeper demonstrate how to open
it). The view is magnificent.
1. Everyone using the staircase is required to exercise appropriate
care and caution.
2. Small children are not allowed to use the staircase ladder!
3. Teenagers should only use the "Crow's Nest" if adults are present.
4. Parents are responsible for their children.
The management and owners are not responsible for any injuries or other
liabilities.
The Crow's nest has windows that can be cantilevered outwards for a
wonderful view. This one overlooks Mango Bay Resort's dock below
and the BVI islands beyond. Let our housekeeper demonstrate how the
window can be cantilevered.

Ferries;”; the actual ferry schedules you’ll find in your in-room copy

Deep-sea Fishing
There are many different day and half day fishing charters. Information
is available from the Marina in Spanish Town or Leverick Bay.
Our recommendation is Island
Boyz - ask for David Straker at Tel. 495-6168. (He offers a special
price for Katitche Point guests). In the picture above, David and
a guest caught a Wahoo and a Mahi-Mahi. And in the evening, you can
barbecue your catch-of-the-day using David's special recipe!
Diving
DIVE BVI (495-5513) is located
next to First Caribbean Bank in the small shopping center at the Marina
in Spanish Town. Some of the best diving sites in the Caribbean,
including wrecks, are in the BVI. A favorite diving site is the wreck
of the Rhone - in 1867 this 310 foot Royal Mail steamer sank during a fierce
hurricane off Salt Island. This marine park is now a popular dive
site and has been acclaimed by the famous diver Jacques Cousteau as being
one of the world's most photogenic wrecks. Also check BVI diving
info at www.scubamom.com
Located at the Bitter End Yacht Club is Kilbride’s
“Sunchaser Scuba” Boat for diving trips and Anegada day trips, phone 495-9638.

the animals!

Flags
If you like to hoist your home country’s flag – there’s a flag post
in the Masterbedroom-area. Ask your housekeeper for “Stars and Stripes”,
“The Union Jack”, the Canadian, the Swiss, the Austrian, the Australian,
the Texas, the BVI, the Barbadian, the German or – the Pirate’s flag.
Floors
All floor surfaces are made of coral limestone (Puerto Rico). Although
the floor is sealed, it is still porous. Please wipe up any spillage
immediately - thank you.
Flowers
For
special occasions tropical sprays and bouquets can be ordered from L&S
Bakery and Party Supplies (284) 495 - 5151. Or ask your housekeeper
to do a flower arrangement with flowers from our garden.
Frangipani
The nice, white-flowering trees around the hillside of KaTITCHE POINT
are frangipani-trees, botanical Plumeria rubra. Smell the perfume-scent
in the air in the evenings!
Fruit
Ask our gardener, Mr. Bridgewater, for ripe fruit from our garden (watermelon,
passion fruit, lime, grapefruit, oranges, star fruit, bananas). Some of
our fruit trees still need a little time; from 2006 onwards we will also
have pomegranate, mangoes, avocado, sour oranges, and olives.
Full Moon Parties
The famous BVI Full Moon Parties take place in the evenings and nights
of full moon at Mine Shaft (Virgin Gorda) and at Bomba Shack (Tortola).
Recent press reports (Travel&Leisure, April 2006) are saying that Bomba
Shack is no longer the hip full moon party place to go. Insiders now head
to the “Fireball Full Moon Party” at Trellis Bay. For information phone
495-2447, www.windsurfing.vi
Games
A variety of board games, playing cards, dominoes etc. are to be found
on the Gallery on the first floor of the main house.
Garden
When we first started building Katitche Point Greathouse we found natural
countryside of rock and indigenous plants untouched for decades, which
we wish to preserve as far as possible for ecological reasons. The landscape
designer Jim Hunziger, St. Croix, who has clients world wide, has drafted
a plan for us which we are gradually putting into effect. You
might see rare wild orchids or observe colibris collecting nectar from
the cactus blossoms.
Garden herbs
Please ask our gardener, Mr. Bridgewater, for Caribbean thyme, lemon
grass (for tea), peppermint and basil. The best way to keep the herbs fresh:
rinse briefly in cold water, wrap in cling-film and store in the refrigerator.
Mr. Bridgewater is at present planting other herbs and vegetables, so just
ask him.
Gas cooker / Barbecue Grill
All
gas appliances are checked regularly. If you are not accustomed to
grilling or cooking barbecue with gas, please ask our housekeeper explain
the procedure without fail. Do not turn the gas on for too
long before lighting it, escaping gas is extremely hazardous and can cause
an explosion! When used correctly, there is no danger at all. This
also applies to the barbecue outside. Empty gas flasks will be exchanged
for full ones without delay, please alert our staff. We accept no
liability for improper use.
Geckos
There is no reason to be frightened if you find a gecko or small lizard
on the wall of a room: they are absolutely harmless and only move along
walls and ceilings. Geckos feed on insects and will keep your room
free of mosquitoes.
Generator
In the event of a power cut, Katitche Point Greathouse has its own
generator which starts up automatically and stops automatically as soon
as the voltage is constant again.
Gift Wrap
Please ask your housekeeper.
Guest
book
We look forward to any holiday comments and entries from our guests.
The guest book is in the main house, next to the dining room.
Guided Tours
Our Guest Service will be pleased to do a guided tour of Virgin Gorda
or accompany you on a day trip to Tortola for sightseeing or shopping at
additional charge. Please ask for general or personalized tours.
Hairdresser, Manicure
Would you like to have your hair styled for a special occasion? Call
Debbie Bruce (284) 495 - 5004 or Colleen, 495-5953. On Tortola we can recommend
„Pearl“, 494-3321, mobile 499-7726.
Hairdryers
A hand hairdryer is in each bathroom.
Horseback Riding
Are you dreaming of a horse ride on a deserted beach? On Virgin Gorda,
call Alex (284) 499-3984, on Tortola call Shadow’s Stable (284) 494-2262.
Hurricanes
The hurricane season is approximately from the beginning of June to
the end of October, i.e. there might be storms, gales, hurricanes – but
not necessarily. Thanks to modern weather forecasting technology, warnings
are usually given in advance. www.stormcarib.com
Katitche Point Greathouse is designed and built for winds up to 250
km/hour. It has withstood the hurricanes "Lenny" and "José" in the
year 1999, ”Joyce” and ”Debbie” in 2000 without any damage; in 2003 we
were lucky - “Fabian” and “Isabel” passed the islands a good distance
away. In 2005 the islands were very lucky – all hurricanes passed
in safe distance to the BVI.
In the event of a hurricane, our local management will inform you in
good advance and KPG’s villa maintenance will do everything to make the
house a safe shelter. Katitche Point Greathouse has its own emergency power
unit to maintain power and water supplies. Basic food supplies and
beverages for a few days are always stored at our cooling room.
Information on the progress of any storm is given by the local radio
station on FM 104 or Radio “One” AM1000.
Ice Cube Machines
An ice machine is next to the wine refrigerator under the pool bar.
An additional ice cube machine is located in the laundry room (ask your
housekeeper). The big fridge/freezer also produces ice cubes.
Interiors
We
have furnished and equipped this house like our own home – please treat
it the same as you would your own home. Interior design by CATHAY
ART, contact us for more information.
Prior to your arrival, everything has been carefully checked against
an inventory list. Please report anything that is missing, damaged or faulty
immediately. You may otherwise be charged for any discrepancies after
your departure. This also applies to any missing keys and remote
control devices (fans, CD player, TV).

to have, we would be pleased to give you the address of the supplier. Note:

shopping center, they offer internet access.

Islands Rating at World Best Awards by Travel & Leisure
Travel & Leisure Magazine’s edition August 2004 rated Virgin Gorda
amongst the Top 5 islands in the Caribbean.
Jetties
As a guest of Katitche Point Greathouse, you may use the jetty directly
below on the beach for fishing or also for mooring.
If you should moor with a boat, please take care sailing through the
surrounding, relatively shallow reef. Corals are very hard and can
cause a lot of damage to a boat and propeller. Most boats use the
entrance into the reef in Savannah Bay.
Jogging
Of course, you can jog along the road, there is very little traffic.
However, in the morning it is much more pleasant to jog along the deserted
beach of Savannah Bay. You can park your car next to the beach.
"Katitche"
This outcrop of rocks is named Katitche Point on all the old maps.
Out of respect for the old name, we have chosen this name for our Greathouse.
We have researched into the origins and meaning of the name. A well
known writer who lives in Jamaica assisted us, searching in libraries and
old inventories. In the course of this research we found that "katecha"
(pronounced "katitche") might have several meanings:
-
In a dictionary of Jamaican English/Patois it is translated as "rare"
-
Or in St. Catherine as "pipe",
-
It might also be an expression from the Arawak (native inhabitants of the
islands), "cacique" (pronounced "katitche") means "Chieftain, clan chief".
-
However, one thing is sure, it has always been a really special place.
We, the owners found it by chance on one of our island tours in 1997. Over
thirty years ago a family started to build a vacation home here on the
ancient ruins of a L-shaped fortress; but they died in a tragic accident.
The foundations for the house layed untouched for three decades, overgrown
with vegetation but still in perfect condition - on these old foundations
we based our dream of Katitche Point Greathouse and our plans to celebrate
the new millennium here with good friends (even if the project was not
completely finished by then: it was an unforgettable party!)
Keys
Our key fobs symbolize the pyramid shape of the main house.
Please look after the room and front door keys (guest bunch) and turn
them in to our staff on departure. Lost keys carry a charge.
Koi pond
The pond in the Master Bedroom is intended for koi carp, which originate
from Japan. The Japanese believe that these fish bring good luck. Koi carp
can live for up to 200 years.
Please do not feed the fish. Our housekeeper looks after them.
Because of the danger of cats wandering in, please close the doors on the
right and left side of the koi pond.
Latitude/Longitude
The coordinates for Virgin Gorda are 18.29 N / 64.25 W

Mosquitoes
All windows and doors in Katitche Point Greathouse have screen, or
mosquito net doors. Avoid opening doors and windows longer than necessary.
We recommend you spray or cream yourself with suitable deterrents.
Mosquitoes are particularly active at dusk, so take particular care between
5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
If you want an additional mosquito net over your bed, please ask your
housekeeper.
In your bathroom you will find a spray can of "OFF", the most
effective preparation for spraying the skin, as well as a spray can of
"BAYGON", should you wish to spray your room (please do not enter the room
for 30 min. after spraying). You'll also find "Bugwacker" which can
be plugged in at night.
Tip: Mosquitoes hate wind – leave the fan running at night.
Tip: Mosquitoes love cars – spray the interior of the car with
"BAYGON" occasionally!
If you should be bitten despite these precautions, "StingEze"
and "ANTHISAN", are two effective remedies, both available from the chemist
in Spanish Town.
Must Does
"The
Baths"
The main attraction on Virgin Gorda - many day trippers come from other
islands especially to see this! The best time to visit this fascinating
rocky landscape above and below the water (take snorkeling equipment along)
is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when it is a picturesque,
dreamy place. Visit their website
for more information.
Copper mine
Drive to the old copper mine, currently being restored.
The area is littered with rocks containing copper (please do not remove
from site). The sea is unusually rough here, and the crashing waves are
an interesting sight.
The copper mine ruins became the 20th National Park in the BVI’s in
2003, it’s one of the historical gems in the BVI.
Amerindians were the first to mine the area in the 1400’s, then Columbus
noticed copper on Virgin Gorda. In the 1500’s, the Spanish mined in the
area, while in the 1800’s through 1900’s, the English continued to extract
copper and molybdenite from the mine. It’s a wonderful place to visit with
easy access.
Rent a boat for a day
Exploring the wonderful islands by boat is an unforgettable experience.
The boat owner or skipper will tell you the best areas for snorkeling.
For example, feed the tropical fish off Necker Island. Have lunch
on Saba Rock, in Marina Cay or at Willy T, a restaurant ship off Norman
Island. And on the way home, enjoy the sight of the sun setting over
the sea! If you would like to arrange a day cruise in an elegant
power yacht, the Sovereign
provides the ultimate in luxury exploring.
Murals
The ten murals you’ll see on the outside walls were created by Harald
K.Herrmann, a German artist from Freiburg/Germany, in summer 2004.
He used the sights and impressions he saw at KATITCHE POINT GREATHOUSE
to reproduce his own images. Discover their hidden beauties in different
locations.
Parasailing
Single flights and tandem flights can be booked with Leverick Bay Watersports,
phone (284) 495-7376
Parrotfish...
... are one of the most beautiful coral reef fish. Do you know
why Parrotfish eat algae and crind up coral? They are making sand
- one Parrotfish can make over 300 pounds of sand in a year! What
does a Parrotfish population do when it has too many females? Simple,
some of the females turn into males!
Photographs
Black and white photographs by the German photographer, Hanns Peper,
are displayed in the rooms: if you would like a copy of one, send an e-mail
to the photographer: hanns.peper@t-online.de
Pillows
The pillows on your bed are washable (polyester) and non-allergic.
Pina Colada Recipes
Pina Colada, Painkillers and other tropical cocktails can be found
in a recipe book at the Pool Bar.
Police Station
Virgin Gorda (284) 495 – 5222
Tortola
(284) 494 – 3822 (Headquarters)
Pool
lights
The switch for the pool lighting is on the right of the steps to the
pool. Relax with a swim before going to bed, and you will enjoy
a wonderful sleep. Please turn the pool lights off, before you go
to bed.
Pool outlets
Please don't step on our beautiful pool outlets! We had them specially
made in Beijing/China and carried them out here in our hand luggage: in
China fish are believed to bring good luck.
Pool rules
For your own safety, please observe the pool rules which are clearly
displayed on board in the pool area. Use of the pool is at your own risk.
1. Watch your children all the time.
2. Don't step over the curved horizon edge of the pool.
3. Don't use any floating devices.
4. Don't jump or dive into the pool.
5. Be especially careful using the pool when under the influence of
alcohol or prescriptions.
Pool - horizon (infinity) effect:
The pool has a flat edge slightly lower than the water level - water
seems to disappear into the horizon. The effect is quite amazing
when floating in the pool and as you can see below - the pool water appears
to blend into Savannah Bay's waters.
Postcards
Have a look at our beautifull postcards in the villa folder. If you
need some more or if you need stamps, please ask your housekeeper.
Power
In the event of a power cut, Katitche Point Greathouse has its own
generator which turns on automatically and turns off automatically, as
soon as the voltage is constant again. (safety coverage time is plus
30 minutes after power from Electricity Cooperation is back).
All rooms are equipped with emergency lights. There is a flashlight/torch
in your room. All electrical outlets are 110 V.
Press Releases
IIn the first year after its completion “KPG” has already received
several glowing reports in the press and the reports are ongoing.
Have a look at them, hanging on the wall in our office area behind the
kitchen (our architect calls this room “Hall of Fame and Glory”!).

- 3 restaurants of international standard.
- Dress Code: smart casual, Christmas & New Year’s Eve: black

Our favourite is still the famous buffet on Monday night in the Main

we recommend the “Sugar Mill Restaurant”. If you want to take it easy,
try the excellent “Beach Grill”.
Chez Bamboo (Spanish Town, 10 minutes by car)
- (284) 495-5752
- very fine Creole-French, international cuisine.
- Dress code: smart casual, casual
- $$$-Guide: 2 people for 3 course dinner + house wine US $150-200
Rose Jiacinto’s “Chez Bambou" is undoubtably the best restaurant on
Virgin Gorda at present. Try the fine French-Creole cuisine and have a
grilled Anegada Rock Lobster.
Fischer’s Cove (Spanish Town, 10 minutes by car)
- (284) 495-5252
- Caribbean cuisine
- Dress Code: casual
- $$$-Guide: 2 people for 3 course dinner + house wine US$100
The owner, Mrs.Norma Flax is well known on the island for her original,
local cuisine. Try special dishes like Welk with Garlic, Anegada Pigeon

snorkel tours at The Bath.
Fat Virgin (North Sound, take the complimentary ferry
to Biras Creek and tell the captain to drop you off at this restaurant)
(284) 495-7052
- rustic, but excellent Caribbean cuisine
- Dress Code: casual
- $$$-Guide: 2 peole for dinner + drinks US$40
Simple, but great food! Very good value for money in a nice location,
next to a jetty, where lots of boats make a stop for lunch or dinner. The
Fat Virgin Shop close by, run by restaurant’s owner, Mrs. Esther Wheatley,
offers authentic Caribbean souvenirs and tasteful little “things” to take
back home.
Roads
In this climate even freshly tarred roads have large potholes within
the shortest space of time. Tropical showers tend to wash out sections
here and there.
Drive carefully, especially at night, and watch out for "sleeping policemen"
(speed bumps), goats and cows. On steep roads, use a lower gear when
going up, as well as down instead of using your brakes to slow the car.
Room Names
We have named the bedrooms after the beautiful nearby beaches. Starting
at the names entrance you will find:
-
On the right the suites and beaches of Mahoe Bay and Long Bay
-
On the left the suites and beaches of Savannah Bay and Little Dix Bay
-
The master bedroom suite is named Pond Bay after the beach and the koi
pond.
Your room keys are marked accordingly.
Safety
Virgin Gorda is an extremely safe island. All the staff of Katitche
Point are completely trustworthy. However, for your own security,
please lock any valuables in the the safe box in the main house – our Guest
Service Coordinator will show you, where it is hidden.
The management and the owners do not accept liability for the loss
of valuables and money.

Sculpture
The courtyard sculpture is the work of the German artist, Jörg
Siegele (the rusty surface is deliberate). The sculpture was discovered
by the owners just at the time that they planned to build Katitche Point
Greathouse.
The sculpture tells a story - let your imagination run wild!
This is a fun exercise for children and adults. If you think of a
particularly poetic, humorous or exciting story, please write it in the
guest book.

Please do not leave anything lying for long or unattended in the open air.
Particularly on the pool decks and verandahs, things such as books and
towels should always be cleared away if you are going to be absent for
a longer period of time. All personal possessions and beach towels should
always be cleared away at night.

VIP’s
If you’ve seen someone at the dock or a local bar, who looks like Robert
de Niro, Dolce & Gabbana, Morgan Freeman, or Heidi Klum – they might
have been it! Not only the named above, but lots of celebrities love
the BVI’s for the relaxed atmosphere and the discretion of people staying
here.
Virgin Gorda
The
island was discovered and named by Columbus on his second journey to America
in 1493.
Extensive literature exists and numerous novels have been written
on the eventful history of the Caribbean, the tragic fate of many people
and the enormous, often forgotten, economic significance of these islands
for Europe and America.
If you are interested, we recommend you start with Mitchener's
"Caribbean". Stevenson's "Treasure Island" (the neighboring Norman Island)
is interesting for children. Our library on the gallery offers a selection
of classical and modern literature on the Caribbean and we are continually
adding to the collection, (we are always grateful for any tips).

Water
Virgin Gorda has no reserves of freshwater. It is a valuable commodity,
so please use it sparingly. Our drinking water is desalinated saltwater
and is of drinking water quality. Rain water collected in our own
cistern is used to water the gardens. Hand basin water and the shower
water runs to the hillside garden area to water the plants; all other used
water goes to a sewage plant.
The overflow water of the horizon pool is treated before flowing
back into the pool. The latest swimming pool water treatment technology
(ions) practically dispenses with the use of chlorine.
Water-skiing
Available at Leverick Bay Watersport, (284)495-7376
